What is a Brain/Mood IV?

The Brain/Mood IV is a vitamin/mineral IV that Dr. Singer modified from a protocol from the Meyer Medical Center in New Jersey. It contains high doses of B vitamins (particularly B12). Many of us do not absorb B12 very well orally, so it is best absorbed through injection or infusion. B12 has several functions in our bodies.

Here are just a few:

1. It helps the body produce new neurotransmitters - such as Dopamine, Acetylcholine, and Melatonin - and helps to “mop up”  old neurotransmitters.
2. Helps to mobilize fat and cholesterol so that our bodies can use them more efficiently.
3. Flushes out bad fat and can be helpful with weight loss.
4. Helps lower cholesterol by making it difficult for fat to accumulate in our arteries.
5. Clears and eliminates histamines; helpful for allergies/asthma.
6. Protects DNA; helpful for anti-aging and longevity.
7. Myelin (which insulates nerves) requires B12 so that proper signals can be sent out to our bodies. B12 is therefore very important for proper nerve function and brain function.

Who could benefit from a Brain/Mood IV?

The Brain/Mood IV could be beneficial for people with neuropathy, people who suffer from anxiety or depression, fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibromyalgia, high cholesterol, allergies, asthma, and Multiple Sclerosis.

Who should not have a Brain/Mood IV?

People with a known sensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients in the Brain/Mood infusion should not have it or have it tailored to avoid those known allergies. People with a diagnosis of G6PD deficiency can have the infusion, but should not have the Vitamin C that it normally contains. Brain/Mood IV should be used cautiously in patients with Congestive Heart Failure due to the increased fluid volume. Patients with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder should avoid the Brain/Mood IV as the B12 can cause a manic episode to develop.

What are the side effects of the Brain/Mood IV?

Some people may experience a sensation of heat or stinging at the IV site during the infusion due to the Vitamin C. Please notify the nurse if burning or pain occurs so that appropriate action can be taken (the infusion can be slowed down, heat can be applied, and additional Lidocaine may be added to the IV). If the IV infuses too rapidly, it may cause lightheadedness or nausea. Muscle cramps are possible, although not likely.

**Please notify Dr. Singer or the IV nurse if you take Digoxin so that the Calcium can be left out of your IV because of potential interactions
